Amity, the pregnant calico cat, was taken in by a vet clinic in Brisbane, Australia. The clinic staff called on Best Friends Felines, a rescue group they collaborate with, to find a foster home for the soon-to-be mom.
One of the foster volunteers, who has years of experience caring for cats, was amazed by Amity’s unique appearance. “I’ve fostered many cats over the years, but I’ve never seen a calico with such striking blue eyes like her,” the volunteer shared.
Once settled into a cozy foster home with ample food, Amity finally had the chance to relax and get some much-needed rest. “I made sure to spend quality time with her every day, giving her tummy massages, which she absolutely loved.”

Abandoned at a vet clinic with a heavy belly, Amity was ready to pop. On a sunny Monday afternoon, she began to go into labor, determined to have her caregiver stand by her side as her makeshift midwife. The foster mom jokingly remarked that Amity was making her earn her stripes with each newborn kitten. After five kittens, they believed the birthing process was over and stepped away briefly. To their surprise, an hour later, baby number six made his debut while Amity showed no interest in cleaning him up, leaving the caregiver to take care of the adorable surprise.

She was adamant about having her foster mom with her during the labor process, so her foster mom stood by her side. However, when her foster mom briefly stepped away, she returned to a surprise – seven babies! After cleaning her up, the kittens immediately started feeding. Amity devoted all her time and energy to caring for her little family, feeding and nurturing them day and night. Unfortunately, Amity’s appetite suddenly decreased, indicating that she had stomach problems that needed attention.

In a cozy and secure setting, she delivered a group of seven kittens with the assistance of Georgia, a caring neonate carer and vet. Together with her sister, they took turns bottle-feeding the kittens day and night while ensuring that mama cat Amity received the necessary medical attention. Following multiple visits to the vet over a span of three days, Amity was reunited with her beloved litter of seven. The intensive care she received truly made a difference.

“Now that Amity has found a diet that agrees with her stomach, she’s really thriving. Her healthy eating habits are positively affecting the growing kittens, who are getting bigger and gaining weight rapidly.”
At the age of four weeks, the playful kittens were finally able to stand on their own. They started to adventure around their environment but never strayed too far from their watchful mother’s side.

She carefully keeps an eye on her kittens, ensuring they stay close by and don’t stray too far. Amity, their mother, attempts to round them up and lead them back to their cozy nest, a challenging task with seven little ones darting off in various directions. As they master the art of walking, they also test their climbing skills by scaling her legs and settling in her lap while she sits on the floor.

At Best Friends Felines, the little kittens are starting to explore solid food. Mama Amity is setting a good example for them as they eagerly watch and try to copy her. With this shift in their diet, she is nursing them less and taking more breaks to relax up high where the kittens can’t reach her.

Saving this group of eight felines requires a team effort. Amity, one of the felines, has made great progress with her health and confidence. She is now more content and her body is filling out, with a boost in energy levels.
“It’s heartwarming to hear her meow when her food bowl is empty.”
